Organic semiconductors have been studied for their use in devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), field-effect transistors (FETs), and photovoltaic cells. Recently there has been great interest in the development of printed organic electronics technologies, which are expected to see use in low-cost, flexible displays and disposable electronics applications. Polythiophene is one of the most promising organic semiconducting materials for FETs, since it offers better performance with high charge mobilities than most other organic semiconductors. We here describe the preparation of a new polythiophene containing a thieno[3,2-b]thiophene moiety and its use in the solution-based fabrication of high-performance organic FETs. |
