Synthesis and Characterization of Quasi-One-Dimensional Platinum-Based Polymer Materials |

Supramolecular quasi-one-dimensional structures comprising a backbone of metal atoms such as platinum have found attention in particular in the field of electrically conducting materials and also in the areas of low-dimensional magnetism and nonlinear optics. Among these materials, Magnus’ green salt, [Pt(NH3)4][PtCl4] was synthesized and characterized almost 200 years ago. Unfortunately, Magnus’ green salt and its isostructural derivatives are largely insoluble in water and common organic solvents, which restricts the processing of these materials. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of novel platinum-based organo-metallic materials by the introduction of flexible polyamines to the platinum backbone. The structure of these compounds was investigated using FT-IR, X-ray diffraction, and SEM. The solubility was tested in various common solvents and the semiconducting properties were studied. |
