제목 Automatic Molecular Alignments with Amphiphilic Fullerene Nanosurfactant
초록 To fabricate electro-responsive birefringence modulators, the amphiphilic fullerene nanosurfactant (abbreviated FNS) was synthesized. Because of their amphiphilic property, the FNSs are self-organized by phase-separation in the LC mixture and formed a 2D monolayer on the solid surface. Based on the spectroscopic and morphological analyses, it is verified that FNSs acted as alignment layers in the LC cell. In order to test the electro-optical properties of LC mixture, the designed multi-domain LC cell was fabricated. Due to the automatically constructed vertical alignment (VA) of LC molecules, the LC cell exhibits VA mode at initial state. When the voltage is applied, LC molecules are rearranged and changed to planar alignment (PA) mode. The system that can automatically induce the VA of LC molecules and switch the transmittance with low driving voltage can be used to LC display field.
