A novel amphiphilic tetrathiafulvalene compound (amph-7TTF14) was newly synthesized via coupling reactions. The amph-10TTF14 compound consisted of a rigid TTF group with flexible hydrophilic and hydrophobic tails. Chemical structure of amph-7TTF14 was first confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR, and its phase evolution was monitored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) combined with the results of cross-polarized optical microscopy (POM) and one-dimensional (1D) wide-angle x-ray diffraction (WAXD). The amph-10TTF14 formed a crystalline ordered phase. Morphological observations by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) clearly indicated that the amph-10TTF14 compound crystallized to flat, scroll and helical ribbons. Utilizing selected area electron microscopy (SAED) and 2D WAXD, crystalline structure and molecular packing of amph-10TTF14 compound were further investigated. |
