제목 Synthesis of Monodisperse Spherical Silica Gels from Water Glass
초록 Monodisperse spherical silica gels were synthesized from water glass, a sodium silicate aqueous solution. The Na2O component was separated from water glass by a selective precipitation of sodium hydroxide in mixed solutions of EtOH and H2O. The selective precipitation rate of sodium hydroxide decreased, as the volume ratio of H2O to EtOH increased. The selective precipitation of sodium hydroxide was driven by the decrement of dielectric constants of mixed solutions as the volume ratio decreased. Also, micrometer-scaled spherical silica gels were prepared by a modified SFB process where residual mother liquors in the selective precipitation of sodium hydroxide, supposed to be mainly composed of the SiO2 component in water glass, substituted for TEOS in the conventional SFB process. As the volume ratio of H2O to EtOH in the modified SFB process decreased, the precipitation rate of silica gels and the diameter of precipitated silica gels increased. In the present study, a process to synthesize micrometer-scaled spherical silica gels from inexpensive water glass will be suggested.
