Self-Expandable Metal Stents (SEMS) are being commonly used to prevent biliary tract obstrction. SEMS have, however, been designed with membranes made of polymeric materials, for example, e-PTFE, polyurethane, and silicone in order to prevent tumor in-growth through the wire mesh. One of main issues in clinical use of biliary stent is a biofilm formation on the surface of polymeric cover membranes which leads to stent obstruction. There have been many studies aimed at the use of protection against biofilms in biliary covered stent. There have been renewed interest in silver coating for antimicrobials purpose. Several In vitro studies have confirmed the effectiveness of silver at preventing infection, both in coating from and as nanoparticles dispersed in a polymer matrix. This study was to prepare metal stent covered with polymeric membrane and silver particles and evaluate their In-Vitro / Ex-vivo anti-microbial effect. |
