Effect of oxidation-stabilization temperature on pore characteristics of pitch-derived activated carbons |

In this study, AC was prepared using various stabilization temperature conditions in order to enhance their specific surface area. The petroleum pitch was oxidation-stabilized at various temperature of 280 to 320℃. The initial cyclization temperature and yield of petroleum pitch were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis. The chemical states of carbon and oxygen of petroleum pitch was analyzed using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The structural characteristics of the activated carbons were observed by X-ray diffraction spectra and Raman spectroscopy. The textural properties of the activated carbon were investigated by N2/77K adsorption isotherms. As a result, the specific surface area and total pore volume of the AC were determined to be 1,600-2,400 m2/g and 0.85-1.30 cm3/g, respectively. The AC-O-300 was observed the highest specific surface area of 2400 m2/g and total a pore volume of 1.30 cm3/g. |
