Copolymers derived from lactide (LA) and caprolactone (CL) have great potential in a wide range of applications. In general, the homopolymerization rate of CL is known to be faster than that of LA; however, the consumption rate of CL in copolymerization is much slower than that of LA. Therefore, the synthesis of LA/CL random copolymer, poly(LA-grad-CL) copolymer, and poly(LA-block-CL) copolymer is extremely difficult, and the reports in the literature are rare. Until now, the examples of single site catalysts for their synthesis have not been reported in the literature. The detailed synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of novel single-component Al-based compounds for LA/CL copolymerization will be discussed. |
