We present the preparation of electron-donating group (EDG) substituted phosphorus(V) phthalocyanines (EDG-PPc) as a measure to shift the Q-band absorption to near-infrared (NIR) region. For the purpose, EDG-H2Pcs were first prepared by direct tetramerization of alkyl and phenylthio–phthalonitrile, in the presence of lithium metal. The presence of alkyl and thiophenol group at the peripheral and non-peripheral positions of Pc skeleton effectively destabilizes the HOMO level. Afterwards, the phosphorus(V) was inserted into the central cavity of phthalocyanine which stabilizes the LUMO level resulting in the decreased band-gap energy. The PPc moiety with reduced band-gap energy is able to shift the Q-band absorptioin to NIR region. Newly synthesized phosphorus(V) phthalocyanines were characterized by using 1H-NMR and MALDI-TOF Mass spectroscopy, and their photophysical properties are analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopy. |
