Photo-responsive property of azopolymers has attracted significant research interest for their broad range of potential applications. Upon exposure to light, azo polymers undergo reversible trans-cis isomerization, which results in directional mass transport in the polymer matrix (“athermal photofluidization”). Based on this phenomenon, in this study, we aimed to explore new possibility of azopolymers as a universal director of 1-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials. Azopolymer nanocomposite microparticles containing ZnO nanowires (NWs) were synthesized by microfluidic system. To induce directional photofluidization of azopolymer, linearly polarized laser beam (467nm) was irradiated to the particles. With anisotropic deformation of microparticles, the encapsulated NWs were successfully aligned along the direction of polarized light owing to the internal mass migration of azopolymer. |
