Amphiphilic triphenylene derivative and poly(methacrylate containing azobenzene unit)-block-poly(methacrylate containing oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether unit), which exhibit lyotropic liquid crystalline nature, were synthesized. The lyotropic liquid crystals/silica hybrid films were prepared onto substrates by a hydrothermal deposition method or a spin-cast method and subjected to sol-gel condensation processes. The resulting films were characterized by grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction measurements, atomic force microscope observations, and transmission electron microscope observations. As the result, the nanostructures of the hybrid films were aligned vertically to the substrate surface. We also achieved removal of organic component by calcination or UV/O3 oxidization using vacuum ultraviolet apparatus, and then the resulting films had nanoporous structures. Here, we propose two new simple approaches using LC nature to construct vertically-aligned silica nanostructures. |
