Nuclear fusion is considered to be a major alternative energy source for the future. Storage and delivery system (SDS) is one of the important components of the nuclear fusion reactor. The SDS is storing and delivering the hydrogen isotopes to the fusion reactor. The SDS contain several stainless beds with storing material inside. For reliable supply of hydrogen isotopes, the storage and delivery bed should be able to deliver hydrogen isotopes safely. The depleted uranium (DU) was chosen as the storage material. Going through the hydriding and dehydriding process, the DU becomes powedered into small submicron particles. Sintered metal filter is needed to prevent small particles escape from the bed. In this study, simple description of nuclear fusion fuel cycle and SDS beds are introduced. Also, we presented our experimental system to find out optimal filter pore size in flow rate performance. An optimal filter for the SDS will be suggested by conducting filter experiments. |
