Photocatalytic and self-cleaning properties of TiO2 thin films on glass substrates |

Anti-fogging, transparent and hydrophilic TiO2 thin films were synthesized by sol-gel technique and deposited on glass substrates by flow coating. The as-prepared TiO2-sol exhibited high chemical stability which depended on the increase in acetyl acetone (AcAc). Hydrolysis and condensation reactions were suppressed in TiO2-sol with less than 9% AcAc. The thin films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis spectroscopy and water contact angle measurements. SEM analysis confirmed that the thin films had crack free surface due to densely packed TiO2 nanoparticles. 8.7% AcAc stabilized TiO2-thin films calcined at 450°C showed highest photo-degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution under exposure to UV-light for 3 hours. |
