Fluororubber (FKM) is an elastomer based on fluorinated polymers from vinylidene fluoride (VDF), hexafluoropropylene (HFP), and tetrafluoroethylene (TFE). Owing to their high resistance to heat, ozone, and petrochemicals, fluororubbers have been widely used in automobile industry and specialty chemical industry. In this research, VDF, HFP, and TFE were copolymerized by emulsion polymerization to produce FKM. The reaction temperature and pressure was monitored during polymerization. The obtained FKMs were characterized with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Mooney viscosity of the FKMs were also examined. |
