UHMWPE has excellent mechanical properties. However, its application is limited because of its high melt viscosity which does not allow melt processing. Consequently a gel spinning using appropriate solvent and blending with polymer which is moderate molecular weight and immiscible with UHMWPE should be considered. We have measured the rheological properties of the UHMWPE/PP blends in decaline with various PP contents(0, 5, 15, 30wt%) at various temperatures (110, 130 and 150℃) in a broad range of shear rate ranges (10-1~102) at a gel concentration, 6wt%. The result showed that the viscosity and mechanical properties of the blends decreased with increasing PP contents because PP disturbs the entanglement of UHMWPE. DSC data showed that the melting temperature of PP (TmP) decreased in the blend though that of UHMWPE (TmU) was kept almost the same. |
