Cobalt Complexes Mediated Controlled/Living Radical Polymerization of Vinyl Acetate and Methyl Acrylate |

Cobalt porphyrin and cobalt salen complexes were used to mediate living radical polymerization (LRP) of acrylates and vinyl acetate. The living characters of linear increased molecular weight with monomer conversion, narrow molecular weight distribution, and the synthesis of block copolymer have been all observed. The mechanistic study indicated that cobalt complexes mediated LRP via both degenerative transfer and reversible termination pathways. The contribution of these two processes depends on the equilibrium constant between cobalt(II) and organo-cobalt(III) species. |
