제목 Amphiphilic comb-like polymeric stabilizer for the colloidal stability of carbon nanotubes in aquesous solution
초록 Stable dispersion in the aqueous solution is critical in the application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) due to their severe aggregation by pi interactions. We synthesized a polymeric nontoxic surfactant of an amphiphilic comb-like polymer (CLP) based on methyl methacrylate backbone for the application of CNT in biosystem. The hydrophobic backbone of CLP chemophysically attached to the surface of CNTs and released freely the hydrophilic side chains toward the medium in aqueous environment. CLP-modified CNTs were stable and any sediment was not observed even after centrifugation at 15000 rpm for 30 min. Significantly, CLP-modified CNTs dispersion showed its stability at room temperature for several months. It indicated that CLP enabled to get long-ranged entropic repulsion among polymer-decorated tubes acting as a barrier that prevented the tubes from aggregation. The stability of CNTs dispersion in culture medium was investigated by long term observation using UV-Visible spectrometry.
