Colored chloroprene rubber composites exhibit inferior properties in artificial weathering environment markedly different from those of chloroprene rubber composites filled with carbon black. The present work focuses on the effects of antioxidants and light stabilizers in the colored chloroprene rubber composites. The degradation behaviour of the composites was investigated by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), mechanical testing and crosslinking density. The change in surface color was also monitored by spectrophotometer. The results show that amine-type antioxidant is not efficient in preventing discoloration than phenolic antioxidant. However, amine-type antioxidant is highly powerful on the thermal stability than phenolic antioxidant. On the other hand, in this antioxidant system light stabilizers are significantly effective both thermal stability and weatherability. |
