For the production of bio-fuel, many researches have been actively conducted on discovering and improving the excellent microalgae species capable of high-speed growth and high lipid content. For more than a decade, conventional benchtop EP systems using cuvette type unit cell has been widely used. However, current conventional EP systems require high equipment cost because of using high voltage and it is suffered from side effects due to an electrochemical reaction, local pH variations, Joule heating, and gas bubble formation near electrodes. Recently, a unique digital microfluidic EP system based on droplet contact charging phenomenon was suggested as an alternative solution. The productivity achieved by the proposed digital microfluidic EP system was comparable to that of conventional benchtop EP system but it is still insufficient in some biological experiments. Here, we demonstrated a high throughput EP system capable of dealing with billions of cells more effectively for more efficient transformation research. |
