제목 A Heavy-Metal Free Battery for a Sustainable Energy Future
초록 The need for high performance batteries in almost every aspect of our life including consumer electronics, transportation, power generation/consumption is ubiquitous and growing. While much of this demand is currently satisfied by lithium ion batteries, the gradual saturation in achievable battery capacity, environmental and social impacts of the extraction of raw materials (mostly heavy metals), and increasing safety concerns have spurred growing interest in new battery materials and chemistries. At IBM research-Almaden, we recently developed a new type of cobalt- and nickel-free battery that relies on an iodine-based cathode material, as well as a safe liquid electrolyte with a high flash point.
