For improvement of the performance of the polymer solar cells, the use of dye sensitization is one of feasible approaches, because appropriate allocation of dye molecules at the donor/acceptor interface can extend the absorption of P3HT to longer wavelength and, as a result, improve the photocurrent of P3HT/PCBM solar cells. However, dye molecules that simply blended as the third component rarely improve but rather degrade the device performance because of the formation of dye aggregations in blend films. To solve this problem, we have synthesized hydroxyl-terminated P3HT and carboxylated zinc phthalocyanine, both of which form the supramolecular assembly via hydrogen bonding. ZnPc molecules linked at the chain end of the P3HT by the supramolecular interaction did not show the dye aggregation at the interface and extended the absorption of P3HT to longer wavelength and, as a result, improved the photocurrent of P3HT/PCBM solar cells. |
