A new facile modification method of polyimide, chloromethylation, had been investigated in our laboratory and some novel photosensitive polyimides with cinnamoyl and acryloyl side chains have been prepared by modification of chloromethylated polyimide and their applications have been investigated in the recent research. In this part of research, we continued to design and synthesize novel photosensitive polyimides by using the chloromethylated polyimide as a starting material. The polyimides with fluorinated cinnamate side chains have been prepared by esterification of chloromethylated polyimide. By using 1H-NMR, FT-IR spectra, the structure of polyimides bearing cinnamate moieties have been characterized. With DSC and TGA, we have tested the thermal properties of resulting polymers. We investigated the solubility of polymers and found that they are soluble in common organic solvents such as DMAc, NMP, DMF and DMSO, even in weakly polar solvent, such as THF and CHCl3. Because of the excellent solubility, the polymers can be solution cast into thin films easily by spin coating. The photosensitive properties for the polymer film was investigated under polarized UV light so as to examine its possible application as a photo-aligning layer in TFT-LCD. |
