Polyurethane, which is widely used as a binder for polymer-bonded explosives (PBX), is generally produced by the urethane reactions of polyol and isocyanate. This polyurethane binder must delay the urethane reaction to prevent the PBX slurry from curing during the process of charging the PBX onto the caster. Thus, in this study, we synthesized various types of I-O hybrid sols using various alkoxysilane-fuctionalized amphiphilic polymer precursors (APAS) through hydrolysis-polycondensation reaction with TEOS to vary ratio of inorganic-organic layer in the particles. Various organic compounds and catalyst (DBTDL) were loaded into the prepared I-O hybrid solutions to prepare catalyst-encapsulated I-O hybrid composite microcapsules. The prepared catalyst encapsulated I-O hybrid composite microcapsules could control the release rate of encapsulated catalyst, which made it possible to regulate the rate of urethane reaction. |
