Multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs) can offer great potentials for medical and physiological research. Numerous studies have been reported on multimodal imaging, simultaneous diagnosis, therapy, and cell separation. Herein, we developed core-shell type quantum dot-embedded silica NPs (SiO2@QDs@SiO2 NPs) as a multifunctional nanomaterial platform. Various functionalities can be easily introduced to the silica core or the shell layer of this nanostructure. We prepared and analyzed a series of SiO2@QDs@SiO2 derived multifunctional NPs. First, using silica coated iron oxide NPs, we built magnetic core-inserted NPs (Fe3O4@SiO2@QDs@SiO2 NPs) for cell separation. Second, through surface polymerization with diacetylene moiety, we synthesized surface-polymerized NPs (SiO2@QDs@SiO2@ PDA NPs) for dual fluorescence encoding. |
