제목 | Sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) polymer electrolyte membrane for water electrolyzers |
초록 | Hydrogen is produced in an electrolyzer during electrochemical conversion of water to hydrogen and oxygen. A polymer electrolyte membrane is the primary component of a water electrolyzer that determines the monetary cost and long-term cycle performance of the water electrolyzer. In this study, a low-priced engineering plastic named poly(phenylene oxide), which can be obtained from the hydrocarbon polymer group, was sulfonated to enhance proton conductivity. The performance of an electrolyzer unit cell comprising the proposed sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) polymer electrolyte membrane was assessed to verify the possibility of its commercialization as an alternative membrane.
