Upconversion Nanocrystal Embedded Mesoporous Carbon/TiO2 Hybrid Films under Solar Light for Enhanced Photocatalysts Activity |

Recently, the environmental pollution became more serious problem. One of the ways involves the use of photocatalysts along with mesoporous TiO2 considering its high photocatalytic activity. However, its absorption spectrum shares only UV region with the broad sunlight spectrum. Mesoporous carbon is a characteristic nanostructure that can be formed by carbonization of self-assembled block copolymer-TiO2 nanohybrids. It has been reported that the presence of carbonaceous moieties in mesoporous TiO2 can increase the power conversion efficiency by up to 60%. To increase the solar absorption is the use of UCNs that can utilize IR and NIR spectral range. Certain pairs of lanthanides elements are capable of absorbing IR/NIR and converting it to visible light or UV by a process called upconversion. We focus on the integration of UCN into m-TiO2 or mC-TiO2 in a single system in order to maximize the photocatalytic performance by bringing the synergy effect from the constituent elements. |
