Gas sensors based on pristine multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have some limitations, such as low sensitivity, lack of selectivity to analytes for which they have low adsorption energy or low affinity. The recent studies show that modifications with the conducting polymers can enhance the sensing properties of MWCNTs. PANI is a potential candidate in sensor applications among the conducting polymers due to its unique electrical properties, environmental stability, and easy fabrication process. The conducting polymer-coated MWCNTs were prepared by in situ polymerization of aniline on the surface of MWCNTs. MWCNTs were incorporated with various compositions (0.5, 1, 3, 5wt%). The conducting polymer/MWCNTs composites were characterized by FE-SEM and TGA for the structural analysis and the gas sensitivity was measured by resistive response. |
