제목 Porosity of activated carbon fibers by addition of PET in melt spinning of petroleum pitch
초록 In this study, the porosity of petroleum pitch-based activated carbon fibers(ACFs) are manipulated by addition of polyethylene terephthalate(PET) in melt spinning process of petroleum pitch. The ACFs are prepared by CO2 activation of PET-added petroleum pitch fibers. The morphological and structural characteristics of ACFs are observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The specific surface area of ACFs is determined from the nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm characteristics at 77 K based on Brunauer-Emmett-Teller theory. The specific surface area and total pore volume of ACFs are controlled at various mixing ratio of PET in the preparation of petroleum pitch-based fibers. The ACFs exhibit various pore properties with different PET mixing ratio. These pore characteristics of the ACFs are considered to be originated from the promoted condensation of pitch and change in burn-off during activation due to PET addition.
