Recently many researches have been performed to improve the various physical properties of PLA by applying CNT as a modifier, since CNT has the excellent properties of high strength, high modulus, high thermal resistance, and good conductivity. In this study, we prepared PLA-grafted MWNT by ring opening polymerization of L-Lactide with carboxylic acid-functionalized MWNT. Carboxylic acid-functionalized MWNT served as an initiator for L-Lactide during ring opening polymerization. The PLA-grafted MWNT synthesized was solution-blended with a commercially available PLA (D-isomer content of 1 mol%) to produce final PLA/MWNT nanocomposites. The pristine, acid-functionalized, and PLA-grafted MWNTs were characterized by GPC, FT-IR, and TGA. Also the thermal, morphological, mechanical, and electrical properties of PLA/MWNT nanocomposites were investigated by using DSC, FE-SEM, UTM, and surface resistivity meter, respectively. |
