Small Molecule, Oligomer and High Molecular Weight Polymer Containing Benzotriazole Units for Bulkheterojunction Solar Cells |

Benzotriazole (BTZ) units are known for relatively weak electron acceptors compared to benzothiadiazole, diketopyrrolopyrrole, and quinoxaline building blocks. However BTZ-based copolymers can still achieve over 7% of PCE in OPVs with a high open circuit voltage, short curcuit current, and fill factor even though they had medium band gap (~ 2.0 eV). Here we present the synthesis and properties of the π-conjugated small molecule, oligomer and polymer containing a BTZ building block as an acceptor alternated with a carbazole donor. The polymerization was carefully controlled to obtain low molecular weight oligomer and high molecular weight polymers. The effects of molecular weights on the OPV performance were also investigated with structural characteristics. |
