Alternative redox couples without iodine for dye-sensitized solar cells have been currently investigated to overcome several drawbacks of iodine-based electrolyte systems - highly corrosive, sublimely, and severely optically absorptive. One of the attractive candidates for iodine-free redox couples is a chemical compound (A) having a stable nitroxide radical, which has been also studied as electrode materials for organic secondary battery. Here, the electrochemical properties such as the redox reaction rates of A with NOBF4 as a doping agent were characterized. In particular, alkali metallic TFSI and benzimidazole were added to the redox couple of A with NOBF4 to enhance the redox reaction rates, resulting in the energy conversion efficiency up to 4% at 1 sun conditions. It was thus suggested that A may be an attractive candidate for iodine-free redox couples. |
