The Au/rGO coating enhance photocatalytic of CdS thin film for photocathode. |

An efficient Au-rGO@CdS heterojunction electrode was fabricated using simply spin-coating rGO and Au NPs onto the surface of CdS thin film following a chemical bath deposition and investigated for photoelectrochemical water oxidation under simulated solar light. The optimal CdS electrode with the reduction grain boundaries in CdS thin film due to the annealing process which was enhanced the conduction capability of bulk and improved the electron collection showing the highest photocurrent density of 3.1 mA/cm2 at 0 V (vs SCE). Compared to the pristine CdS reference the Au-rGO@CdS revealed a remarkable improvement in PEC activity and a 1.6-fold photocurrent density increase. The reasons for the PEC enhancement of Au-rGO@CdS could understand by the LSPR induced strong and broad visible light absorption significantly improve the efficiency of photon capture. Moreover, the deposited RGO films reduced potential barrier at interface between the Au particles and the CdS film and serve as an excellent electron transport channel which facilitating charge transfer of photoexcited electrons from Au NPs to CdS thin film. |
