In recent years, lignin has been noted as an alternative to fossil fuel derived products. A number of literature report using lignin as the precursor for synthesis phenol formaldehyde or polyurethane. Furthermore, lignin now being blended with polymer and used in advanced material such as carbon rich material, energy storage and renewable energy. However, due to its nature chemical structure, there is a limitation in the amount of lignin substitution. Thus various lignin modification methods were applied to obtain high quality of lignin-based material. In this research, phenolation was used to make acid-insoluble lignin become more soluble and readily reactive material. H NMR was used for evaluating the phenolation performance. Reacted samples were also analyzed by TGA, DSC and tested the solubility. |
