Molecular-Weight-Dependent Crystallization and Melting Behaviors of Poly(ethylene oxide) in Nanocylinders |

The molecular-weight-dependent crystallization and melting behaviors of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) confined to nanocylinders were investigated. A drastic change in nucleation mechanism depending on the molecular weight (MW) and the pore-diameter (Dp) was observed. Crystallization of low-MW PEO (5 kg/mol) was dominated by the homogeneous nucleation irrespective of the Dp, while it was prevailed by heterogeneous nucleation and the contribution of homogeneous nucleation appeared as increasing the Dp for larger-MW PEOs (35 and 380 kg/mol). The Dp-dependent reduction of Tms was also affected by the MW of PEO. |
