The PHB/PHBV aerogels prepared by NIPS were sequentially immersed in ethanol then sodium alginate(ALG) solution, resulting in the formation of ALG-loaded composite aerogels with high porosity. The ALG could be incorporated into PHB/PHBV aerogels up to 52wt% of the aerogel, which remarkably increased the compressive properties and surface hydrophilicity of the composite aerogels. The composite aerogels also acted as an efficient floating adsorbent for cationic dye, methylene blue from water due to the synergetic effect of anionic ALG and water-resistance of PHB/PHBV. The floating adsorbents could effectively eliminate both MB dye and oil simultaneously from water due to their amphiphilicity. The dye adsorption capacity was significantly influenced by the ALG content of the aerogels as well as the operating parameters such as initial concentration, pH, and temperature of MB solutions. MB adsorption was best described by the Langmuir isotherm and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics. |
