Synthesis and characterization of bioreducible poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(β-benzyl-L-aspartate) AB2 miktoarm copolymers for drug delivery system |

In recent studies, new classes of star-shaped polymers where any number of various types of polymer arms emanate from a core, miktoarm polymers, have attracted much attention for their potential applications in drug delivery system. In this study, we synthesized a bioreducible PEG-PBLA2 miktoarm copolymers consisting of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) block and hydrophobic poly(β-benzyl L-aspartate) block were worked through the ring-opening polymerization of β-benzyl-L-aspartate N-carboxyanhydride using a PEG macroinitiator. We have observed the self-assembly behavior, drug-loading capacities, drug release and bioreducible features of the PEG-PBLA2 copolymers. The PEG-PBLA2 copolymers can easily form a spherical micelle structure in aqueous media. For drug-loading and release study, we used doxorubicin and it form a self-assembled NPs after loaded with PEG-PBLA2. We have also observed the anti-cancer effects of Dox-loaded PEG-PBLA2 copolymers via MTT assay using KB cells. |
