제목 Design an Enhanced Energy Efficiency Configuration using a Dividing Wall Column in a Methoxy-Methyl-Heptane Process
초록 A dividing wall column (DWC) can be considered as an attractive alternative to replace the conventional distillation sequence which requires a lot of energy. In this study, we propose a design of using DWC to improve the energy efficiency of the chemical 2-methoxy-2methylheptane process (MMH). It has been known that the MMH is an important gasoline additive to substitute the methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) to mitigate the groundwater contamination. A base case contains three distillation in series which produces the final MMH products of 0.999 molar purity. The results show that the use of an alternative DWC can reduce 29.44 % in terms of the energy requirements to replace two columns. Instead, the total energy reduction can be achieved up to 11.3 % if the use of DWC associated with the feed-preheating can be explored.
