New 2D Conjugated Side Chain Substituted Benzodithiophene Based Semiconducting Polymers for Bulk Heterojunction Organic Solar Cells |

We report synthesis and characterization of two new 2D conjugated benzodithiopehne based polymers (P1 and P2), where alkoxyphenylthiophene and alkoxynapthylthiophene substituted benzodithiophene based electron rich donors and fluorinated benzodithiazole as electron deficient acceptor unit were used as repeating units. Here we investigated optoelectronic properties of new polymers via, UV-Visible absorption spectra, cyclic voltammetry. And thermal stability was studied from thermo gravimetric analysis and polymers are stable up to 400 oC. We found that both the polymers showed broad absorption spectra from 300-800 nm. The optical band gaps of new polymers are 1.7 and 1.6 eV respectively. And further we fabricated bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells with new photoactive materials and preliminary studies showed moderate power conversion efficiencies around 3%, further improvement of PCE via additive study and with different device architecture are under way. |
