Narrow Band Gap Diketopyrrolopyrrole Based Polymers For Polymer Solar Cells Applications |

Synthesis of new narrow bandgap polymers is important for polymer solar applications since they can absorb better sunlight across solar spectra. To this end here we designed and synthesized two new donor-acceptor (D-A) narrow band gap polymers (P1 and P2) where para or meta alkoxyphenylthiophenylthiophene substituted benzodithiophene as an electron rich unit and diketopyrrolopyrrole as an electron deficient units respectively. Polymers P1 and P2 showed broad absorption windows from 300-950 nm with band gaps of 1.33 and 1.26 eV respectively, HOMO energy levels of the new polymers are 5.19 and 5.23 eV respectively and with high thermal stabilities up to 420 oC. Further bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells were made with the P1 and P2 and delivered maximum power conversion efficiencies up to 2.95 and 4.6 % respectively. |
