Isosorbide (1,4:3,6-Dianhydro-D–glucitol) is an attractive renewable biomass based monomer for environmental as well as for performance reasons. Isosorbide have already been shown to give Tg increasing effects in various polymers. Poly(Isosorbide carbonate) (PIC) is a high Tg polymer derived from a bio-renewable diol and carbonate source. In this study, we investigated the effect of catalyst on PIC using diphenylcarbonate, isosorbide with various catalysts. Four catalysts of different metals were evaluated and each catalysts have shown a different catalytic activity. As a consequence, the choice of the catalytic system is really crucial for the success of this synthetic way. We used Cesium based catalyst and studied various ligand effect. Basic properties of resulting PIC and catalyst activities were characterized and compared here. |
