We propose an integer programming model for the trim-loss problem in LCD mother glass industry. In the trim-loss problem at LCD mother glass production, an objective is sought for cutting raw glasses into LCD mother glasses in such a way where the trim loss (waste) is minimized. There are several features as follows: (1) When cutting patterns are changed, cost is required because of a loss of production time. (2) Glass must be cut from one side edge to another side edge (guillotine cut). (3) The two-stage problem is considered. The main concept is the cut which generates one plate (residual plate) with one item from another plate. The proposed model consists of the integer programming model and an enumeration algorithm for the cut. In the integer programming model, one integer decision variable associated with each item and each cut and one binary variable associated with each pattern change are used. A simple rule for enumerating all types of residual plates and cuts is proposedas the enumeration algorithm. Comparative results of the proposed model and literature models are presented. |
