제목 | Effect of Bioactive Fillers on Functional Bis-GMA Derivative Bone Cements Containing Biodegradable Materials and Antibiotics |
초록 | Bis-GMA prepolymer is suitable for use as a binder for reinforcing fillers in orthopedic bone cement system, since it has relatively low polymerization shrinkage and hardens rapidly under oral conditions when suitably formulated with an appropriate initiator system. We have already prepared a new bioactive bone cement consisting of Bis-GMA derivatives/triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) resin and apatite and wollastonite-containing glass ceramic (AW-GC)/β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) fillers. The prepolymer of Bis-GMA derivative, 3MA mixture (Bis-GMA 45%, 3MA 45%, 4MA 10%), has good physical and mechanical properties as compared with Bis-GMA. Meanwhile, a novel drug delivery system containing antibiotics was developed in commercial PMMA bone cement.1 In the present study, novel functional Bis-GMA derivative bone cements were prepared and the effect of two bioactive fillers was examined. They comprise 1) Bis-GMA and 3MA mixture as prepolymer, 2) AW-GC and β-TCP as filler, 3) lactide-based oligomers, GL15-Ac, as biodegradable material, and 4) gentamicin sulfate (GS) as antibiotics. The resulting functional Bis-GMA derivative bone cements were evaluated by analyzing their physical properties, mechanical properties, biodegradable behaviors and the release of antibiotics. GS release from biodegradable 3MA bone cements containing AW-GC filler after immersion in PBS increased with increasing GS contents. Fig. 1. GS release profile from biodegradable 3MA bone cements.
