Improvement in electrochemical properties of fluorinated activated carbon fiber-based EDLC electrodes |

Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were prepared as an electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) electrode by electrospinning, thermal treatment and chemical activation processes. The prepared ACFs were fluorinated for 10 min at different fluorine gas partial pressures. The chemical changes of the surface functional groups of the untreated and fluorinated ACFs were investigated using XPS. The specific surface area and pore volume of the prepared samples were confirmed via N2 adsorption at 77 K using an ASAP 2020. The plate material evaluating cell was used for a three-electrode assembly. The electrochemical properties of prepared electrodes were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte. The specific capacitance increased significantly with fluorinated sample at 0.1 bar. |
