제목 Operando IR study of intermediates on Cu related catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction
초록 Cu has been known as the only electro-catalyst that can solely produce C2+ fuels by CO2RR, and pioneering works have been intensively progressed in revealing CO2RR pathways on Cu to define fundamental descriptors for the control of selectivity. However, precise pathway for C-C coupling reaction and the resulted intermediate structure in C2+ path is still controversial. In the present study, we utilized time-resolved attenuated total reflection-surface enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS) technique to directly monitor intermediates appear on Cu during CO2RR in real-time. We extended the focus to C1 and C2 path triggering intermediates derived from *CO for the in-depth understanding of further reduction reactions. With the real-time investigation on the intermediates, we disclosed noteworthy active sites on Cu that determine reaction pathway. In addition, changes in adsorption between Cu and intermediates were further observed using a Cu alloy catalyst and a selective oxidized Cu catalyst. We believe that this research would provide helpful insights in designing rational electro-catalysts and disclosing underlying mechanism for future CO2RR.
