SPP (self-pillared pentasil) comprised of MFI nanosheet layers has been synthesized in different Si/Al ratios & mesoporosity. Cu loaded SPP (Si/Al ~ 22) with medium mesoporosity performed in cold-start tests; desirably adsorbing hydrocarbons (HCs) even in the presence of 10 vol% steam, retaining their desorption to higher temperature (90 °C for propene and 190 °C for toluene), and furthermore, oxidizing the HCs. The adsorption of HCs can be attributed to a large number of exchanged Cu2+ ions in SPP particles, while the oxidation ability was due to the CuO particles on the surface of SPP particles. Hydrothermal aging process revealed that the zeolite structure in the Cu-SPPs was transformed into another undesired phase, and simultaneously, lost the adsorptivity. Nevertheless, because of CuO particles, oxidation performance of aged SPP was still maintained. |
