Zinc based metal-containing ionic liquids immobilized on commercial silica [CS-(Im)2ZnX2] catalysts were synthesized and characterized by various analytical methods. FT-IR, 29Si NMR and elemental analysis (EA) exhibited that zinc-containing imidazolium salts, (Im)2ZnX2, were well incorporated into the support. The CS-(Im)2ZnX2 showed to be effective heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of cyclic carbonate from CO2 and epoxides under solvent free condition. The CS-(Im)2ZnX2 having higher nucleophilicity among the catalysts, was the most active and selective catalyst; it was readily recoverable and reusable in the subsequent reaction cycles. The influence of reaction parameters such as CO2 pressure, temperature, reaction time and amount of catalyst was investigated. It was found that higher CO2 pressure, temperature and longer reaction time were favorable for yield of cyclic carbonate. |
