Programmed Suspension Rheology of Nanofluids Using DNA-Patchy Biocellulose Nanofibrils |

We propose a new suspension rheology approach to program the rheological properties of Nanofluids, in which DNA-patchy biocellulose nanofibrils exhibit non-specific interactions between fibers, thus enabling the shear-dependent reversible sol-gel transition. For this, two complementary DNAs were grafted onto biocelluloses that were treated with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide to form amide bonds. When the DNA bases pair up, hybridization causes physical cross-linking of biocelluloses, which was programmable depending on the degree of interaction between DNAs on the biocellulose. Finally, we showed that the DNA-modified biocellulose nanofluids having a stable gel network exhibit reversible sol-gel transition in response to the applied shear force. |
