A study of mechanism and 3D analysis of linear actuation of polypyrrole micro-rod actuators |

Polypyrrole micro-rod actuators were electrochemically synthesized on a porous polycarbonate (PC) template. The linear actuation of the PPy micro-rod actuators was consecutively monitored and captured as a function of voltage using by optical microscope. The photographs of actuation of PPy micro-rod were converted into the 3-dimesional images using by 3-dimensional analysis program. The electrochemical characteristics and the actuation behavior of PPy micro-rod actuators were characterized during the redox process by cyclic voltammetry, AFM and SEM, respectively. The linear stretching actuation in the longitudinal dimension has been successfully demonstrated. The PPy micro-rod actuators might have a chance to be used in nano and micro-electromechanical system applications and in the area of biomimetics or in medical devices. |
