제목 n-hexane dehydrogenation to 1-hexene over PtSnK-ZSM-5
초록 1-hexene, comonomer of commodity polymer, is commercially synthesized by petrochemical process, i.e. trimerization of ethylene, and it is oxidized to produce 1,2-hexanediol, one of the main material for cosmetics preservatives. Due to the preference to the bio-based products, 1,2-hexanediol derived from biomass is attracting much attention. In this process, it is necessary to selectively convert n-hexane, the product from Kolbe electrolysis of butyric acid, to 1-hexane. As various pathway for n-hexane catalysis present such as isomerization, cracking, and dehydrogenation, it is important to control catalyst and reaction conditions to improve the selectivity to 1-hexene. Bimetallic Pt and Sn supported ZSM-5 showed cracking reaction, resulting in a formation of hydrocarbons with carbon number less than 6. However, PtSnK-ZSM-5 catalyst produced 1-hexene via dehydrogenation. In this presentation, the role of potassium will be discussed based on the reaction and characterization results.
