Pyrolitic carbon from biomass precursors as anode materials for lithium batteries |

A key element in lithium- ion battery technology is the lithiated carbon anode. Disordered carbons have several attractive features like higher intake than the theoretical limit and amenability tailoring by varying the nature of their organic precursors and temperatures and good cycling properties. In this paper, we present our results on the lithium- insertion properties of pyrolytic carbons obtained from coffee seed and coconut shells treated with KOH and ZnCl2 as a porogen. Pyrolysis was carried out by heating under flowing nitrogen at 800 and 900°C at a heating ramp of 10°C min-1 for a hold of 1h. The pyrolysed carbons were measure to XRD, SEM and surface area analyzer. The 2032-coin type cells were assembled and the charge- discharge characteristics has been analyzed. |
